Hello, I'm Madison DeVries and thank you for taking the time to learn about me. Since I was seven years old, I've had two goals, the first is to work in the Criminal Justice field and the second is to play college softball. I've been working towards both of these goals ever since. I feel my best attribute to a college and my team is my determination and drive. In my softball career, there have been times that I may have been the smallest girl on the field but that didn't stop me, I used it to drive myself to get better and improve my skills because of this I have become a well rounded player. My first position was catcher but as my skills improved I realized my first love was middle infield. I've dedicated myself to continuously improving my skills through private fielding lessons, practicing daily, pushing myself to compete at higher levels and by listening to my coaches. I believe in putting what is best for my team in front of what I may want to do. My junior year, my coaches told me a week before the season started that I was going to be the starting first baseman, even though I didn't necessarily wanted to played the position but I trust my coaches and knew it was what was best for the team. I took this as an opportunity, worked on my skills and at the end of the season I made second team all conference. In practices I work hard to improve myself and help my teammates when they are having a hard time. Softball has become more then a sport to me, it's made me who I am, it's taught me commitment, hard work, drive and is my second family. I would like to take my skills and passion on to the next level.
I apply the same drive and determination to my academics that I do on the softball field. I work hard and pay attention in the classroom. I have a good work ethic, good time management skills and I always push myself to work harder. I never take the easy path, this being my senior year, I am pushing my self even harder by taking AP History, Physics, Chemistry as just a few of my classes. I have been working towards and will receive my advanced diploma when graduate. I take a lot of pride in my character and strive to become a better person. At the end of the day I may not always succeed but I don't see those as failures I see the as the building blocks to become a better daughter, sister, friend, teammate, student and person.
