Dear Coach,
I know how busy you are, so I would like to start by saying thank you for taking the time to read this. I find it so interesting that wherever you go there are girls with the same dream of playing college softball and taking similar steps to get there. So I guess this is the part where you wonder: how am I different? Why should you invest your time in me, Jada Crittendon? I would ask you to look at the person that I am, and then you will know the player. I’m the person who is going to give my all on and off the field. I can say this because while I play high school and travel softball, I have remained a honor roll student in Norfolk Public Schools’ International Baccalaureate (IB) Program with a 4.51GPA, a member of the National Honor Society, selected as a Student Ambassador by The National Society of High School Scholars, and has maintained perfect attendance for the past 11 years. I was also honored to be named Student Athlete of the Year by the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame while in middle school. I am currently taking an aggressive course load, including calculus and physics, because I know being an Architect requires a strong academic commitment. I’ve also worked to increase my speed, endurance, and strength; and reduce my time running from home to 1st base to 2.66. As an outfielder and second baseman, I have the ability to track the ball and cover the field with great speed.
So as you consider filling roster slots, please know that I’m the person who won’t give up, and who knows struggle and hard work. I’m the person who will stay after hours both in the classroom and on field until I get it. I’m dedicated to the game and to my teammates. After all, I’m married to the game, meaning when it’s hard, you just have to work harder and stay committed.
My name is Jada Crittendon and I’m looking for a college where I can pursue my educational and career goals and a place where I can leave it all on the field. Most importantly, I’m looking for a place to call HOME.
Sincerely,
Jada Crittendon '17
Outfielder/Second Base
