Personal Statement

Hi Coach!

My name is Paige Miller and I'm a 2016 graduate of Watertown High School (WI) currently in my second year attending Heartland CC in Normal, IL.   I'm spending these first 2 years growing as a person and as a softball player as a member of a great Heartland Hawks (NJCAA D2) softball program!  I then plan to transfer to a 4-year institution to finish my education and play the final years of my softball career.

I've always had the goal of playing very competitive softball in college. Heartland has been a great fit for me with the perfect combination of coach and team chemistry, being very competitive and respected in the region and have a great support system in place for the "student" part of the student-athlete.  After my 2 years at Heartland I have a clearer idea of my career choice which is in criminal justice and coaching.

There is no doubt I love the game of softball.  I love the competition, the sacrifice and a team that works hard together towards a common goal.  Over my last 4 years of high school and 1 year of college, I've learned to overcome the challenges of balancing school, athletics and social life by better managing my time.  I've also learned to only focus on the things I can control - my attitude, work ethic, my choices and whatever I have to do to help me achieve my goals.   I've been a leader - sometimes vocal but mostly by example. I've found that confidence is a key quality that you need to play softball or any sport at a high level.  As a player I've been lucky to play for many great coaches and with great teammates and fortunate to play for winning programs.  I rode on the emotional roller coaster along the way.  Things like losing tough games, struggles at the plate and sitting out with injuries were tough to learn to overcome but I managed because I knew everything would get better.  I am a better person because of my hard work and a positive attitude.  This is a team sport so the only thing that matters to me is ending the season with a win and how our team measures up.  (I've been lucky enough to play a role in helping my high school team finish as State Runners-Up TWICE in the Wisconsin Division 1 State Finals in both 2015 and 2016!)

I continue to work hard on my all-around hitting and fielding skills so I can play almost anywhere.  During my freshman year at Heartland I mainly played 1B but most of my high school experience is in LF even a little at 3B.  I'm comfortable at any of these positions and I'm willing to play anywhere I can be an asset to my team.

Thanks, Coach, for your time viewing my player profile!
