DI Rules Affecting College Baseball

If you have not already heard, college baseball has new rules. There has been a major change to Division I college baseball as dictated by new legislation. Two rule changes that will impact the game most dramatically are the universal start date and roster size.

With the college season in full swing the DI coaches are still disgruntled over a rule put into place at the beginning of this season, the universal start date. This rule is forcing more games to be played in a smaller time frame. A team this year is given approximately 13 weeks to play up to a 52 game season. You may be thinking, "Big deal." Q&A with Mike Dichazi



Mike DichaziNCSA caught up with rising baseball star Mike Dichazi about his high school career and the opportunity to compete at the next level.

NCSA: What motivates you before a big game?

Dichazi: I listen to a baseball warm-up CD to get me fired up and I drink a Mountain Dew.

NCSA: What are you looking forward to if and when you get the opportunity to play at the collegiate level?

Dichazi: I hope my skills prove to coaches that I am capable of playing at another level and hopefully playing early.

NCSA: Why did you get involved in baseball?

Dichazi: I just enjoyed hitting a baseball and expelling some anger. Baseball is very fun, it’s our nations pastime, and my dad encouraged me to play because he did when we was young. Read More>>


May 2008 Impact Player of the Month

Andy Grillo is an all-out athlete succeeding in baseball, football and basketball for Vinton County High School in Ohio. Grillo was named All-League, 1st Team Tri-Valley Conference, 1st Team All-District, and All-District All-Star Selection Teams as a freshman in baseball. He was also named to the 1st Team Tri-Valley Conference Teams for football and basketball. This season Andy is off to a great start behind the plate, batting .484 with 12 stolen bases, and attaining a .529 on base percentage.

In the classroom, Andy maintains a 3.856 GPA, is ranked number six in his class, and also participates in the Spanish Club. He is leaning toward studying education, business or law in college.
