Little Things Can Produce a Big Edge

Isn't it nice as distance runners to finally get some nice weather to run in? Of course it is. Mid-April to mid-May marks an exciting and important time for distance runners to make some headway.
That headway is of course with racing, but also with college and recruiting. This time of year marks a time of dual meets, Saturday invites and post-season races. The weather is getting nicer and this tends to be the time where PRs happen and confidence grows. This is time where you really need to keep the focus and continue to do the little things. Stretch before and after each run, eat and drink healthy and get at least eight hours of sleep every night. Those little things are going to help you get those PRs you want and ultimately can mean the difference of being recruited by a few college coaches or many college coaches. Read More>>
Impact Athlete of the Month
Luke Fontaine

Augusta, ME
It is rare for an underclassman to make a huge impact for a high school team, but Luke Fontaine is doing exactly that. Luke, a 5’11’’ sophomore from Augusta, ME, is set to have a breakout track season. As a freshman, Luke was the High School Track Runner of the Year and acted as the team co-captain. Luke has already set the high school record for the indoor 3200M this year with a (9:58), which earned his a 3rd place finish at Indoor Championships.
Luke has also been competing in USATF events for several years. He placed 7th at Nationals in Walnut last year in the 3k and also competed at Cross Country nationals in Spokane. This year, Luke has his eyes set on Nike Nationals and a top finish at USATF Nationals in the mile and 3k.
So far in his academic career, Luke has held a strong 91.5/100 GPA and is already taking honors courses. He plans to study pharmacy in college.
