Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Ariana Clavell. I am 17 years old and a Junior at Leading Edge Academy – Gilbert Early College in Gilbert, AZ. I’ve been playing on the girls’ varsity basketball team since the seventh grade. In 7th grade, I was the seventh player off the bench and voted to be part of the Canyon Athletic Association All-Conference Team. As a starter in the 8th grade, I was voted to be part of the All-State Team. My most memorable honor, thus far, was being selected as the Canyon Athletic Association Player of the Year as a freshman. Since playing on the girls’ varsity basketball team for the last four years, I’ve been part of four state championships.
Our high school summer league schedule includes many of the bigger and higher ranking teams in the Phoenix Area. Our schedule this year took us out of state with the opportunity to play against the larger sized student body schools in California. During our visit to California, we played in the first annual Christmas Jamboree Varsity Girls’ Basketball Tournament. Our school went 6-0 to win the tournament championship over 11 other California schools.
Over the last three years, I have played for the Lady Sol Club girls’ basketball team. Our club team has placed in the top five during tournament rankings when traveling to Mexico, California, New Mexico and Nevada. During these times, I am consistently matched up against bigger and more challenging players.
In March of 2016, I had the honor of trying out for the Puerto Rico National Women’s 18U Basketball Team. I am an above average student and solid basketball player. I always consider myself as leader and a team player on and off the court.
