Personal Statement
Ultimately, my goal is to attend a four year university where I can compete at a high level while receiving an excellent education. Basketball has always been my passion, and I want nothing more than to play in college; however, education is equally important if not more so. I have been a varsity player for three years and am looking forward to an amazing fourth year. I have been fortunate enough to experience great success with my team at Monte Vista High School. The 2012-2013 season (my sophomore season) saw my team win the Division 1 North Coast Section Championship, in which I was one of the leading scorers. That year I was also nominated for California's All-State Team.
Monte Vista had another great season in 2013-2014 and we made it to the Nor-Cal Semifinals. My Junior year was also a successful year for me personally as I averaged 14.9 points a game and led the team in three-pointers. I held a 43 % three point average which helped lead to 90 three pointers for the season. I broke my school's overall three point record around halfway through the season and continue to add to the record. Also a NorCal best for the 2013-2014 season. I also received MVP Tournament Honors and All Tournament Team Honors this past season. I made first-team all league for the East Bay Athletic League and was once again nominated for the All-State Team. In addition I received honorable mention for All-Metro Team. I have been mentioned in the paper several times for "Player of the Week."
I am very excited to be a captain next season and the only four year varsity player on the team. Continuing my leadership for the team into next season is a welcome challenge. Basketball has transformed me into the person I am today and I am incredibly grateful for all that it has taught me. I have known the satisfaction of success and learned how to deal with loss. It has taught me perseverance and commitment. My favorite part of basketball is being a part of a team because there is nothing like depending on the person next you. To have people that depend on you and trust you implicitly to help each other win is truly a special thing. My dedication to the game leads to commitment in other areas such as school and community service. I recently went on a service trip to Costa Rica where I built houses, taught English to underprivileged children, and helped to rescue turtles. It was a life-changing experience and inspires me to continue to help others. I am a well-rounded, mature person and I would love to bring my passion to an exemplary university.
