Personal Statement

Hello! My name is Brandy Huffhines and I currently just finished up my senior year at Rio Linda High School in Rio Linda, California. I'm a 5'7" point guard and weigh 125 lbs (unless you weigh me after I've stuffed myself with Dad's Tri Tip or with my Moms Enchiladas!) .  I've been really fortunate and lucky to be a part of a successful high school program.  We have won 3 League Championships in a row and also went to back to back Section Championship Games including winning the first Section Title in School History the 2016 season.  Individually, this year I was named MVP of the TCC and first team All Conference, 1st Team All-City, and last year Max Preps even put me on the All State Division 3 Team.   I've lettered on Varsity all 4 years, and have been serving as a major contributor since my Freshman Year.  I like to think that I'm a true point guard. I get the ball to who needs it, I have the ability to score, I'm a leader on and off the court, and I feel my best when my team looks their best. I'm known for my Assists, if someone is open, I usually get them the ball!  When this season ended I now hold the school record in scoring(1,510 career points) and assists (710 career assists).  I also was the leading scorer in this years Optimist (City All Star Game) Game and was awarded MVP of the game for the North Team.  My Father says I remind him of Steve Nash, Great Compliment!  Basketball is my life even though I have played soccer most of my life too.  I have been playing both since 2nd grade.  I just feel I have a better chance of competing in College if I pursue Basketball.  I enjoy supporting my friends at the Football, Baseball, and Volleyball Games.  We get kinda crazy yelling and supporting each other. Our School Spirit is great and we have so much fun supporting each other.  I'm currently #1 in my class, I will have to start working on that Valedictorian Speech soon.  I volunteer helping with Developmentally Disabled Adults.  My parents operate a Care Home Facility so my sisters and I are always helping out when they need help.  Growing up in this environment has helped me appreciate many things in life that many take for granted.  Last year I was awarded Prom Queen by my peers. I did NOT expect that!  Something that everyone knows me for is how serious I take my academics and how serious I take my Sports.  I am super outgoing, and get along great with everyone, but they know not to get in the way of those two things.  I take them very Serious!!  I want to play Basketball and attend a College that can offer Kinesiology or Sports Medicine as my Major.  When my playing days are over, I would like to be in a position to help others.  This is a way I can do that.  Besides Passion and Energy, the things I can bring to a team are leadership, hard work and dedication. I've played in many high pressure game situations before, and that is something that not many point guards can say. Sure, a lot of people can handle the ball, but not many of them can do it in the large arenas like Sleep Train where our Sacramento Kings play with 5 to 10 thousand people in the stands watching!  Being a Coaches Daughter I have learned to be a student of the game.  So many times we sit down and go over and over film.  Going out and scouting teams before we play them.  Putting in the extra time in the gym because Dad/Coach has a key to get in, lol. So many advantages I have learned that the normal teammate doesn't get a chance to do, I have taken full advantage of.  My hard work, dedication, and passion for the game are assets that I want to take to the next level. I took my SAT's and recieved a 1,250.  I know I am undersized a bit at 5'7", but you can't put a tape measure on "Heart"! My Senior season is now over and I am ready to take this Heart and Passion of mine to Sac City JC, put on the extra 10-15 pounds I need in hopes of landing something bigger the following season at the University level!  Talk to you soon, Brandy!
