Brooke Shenkenberg '19 Recruiting Profile

   Playing basketball from the age of four, I loved the sport from the day the ball touched my fingertips. Discovering much through my years of playing, I have learned commitment, perseverance, and trust. Since my high school team struggles with commitment, I have dedicated myself to going beyond the expected. Many obstacles have occurred throughout my years of play, but the most challenging hardship was being born with clubfeet. To correct the improper formation of my feet, two surgeries were accomplished in order for me to walk. Constantly surmounting the struggle of my feet, I always find ways to move past my misfortunes. This mutation in my feet may have seemed like a downfall, but it has become a base to my character. With this hardship in my life, I have become mentally strong, hard-working, and persevering. These life lessons not only apply to my athletic life, but also to my academic life. I have learned the importance of working hard to accomplish my goals in school and other leadership roles. As an athlete in college, dedicating myself to school while playing a competitive sport will be an amazing experience. While receiving my degree in college, I want to play the sport I fell in love with as a child.
