Personal Statement
I was born on Andrew’s Air Force Base, Maryland where my father was stationed in the Air Force and not long after relocated with my family to Dunnellon, Florida. Sports seemed to come naturally to me through elementary and middle school, but I am most passionate about basketball and eager to show my talents and skills at the next level. I was 6 years old when I picked up a basketball and began my journey under the tutelage of my father, who coached me on various summer, county and travel basketball leagues until middle school, when I was able to try out for the middle school team, and played organized school ball since. I continued to play basketball in multiple summer leagues in the off season as well as run Track and Cross Country. In high school I played JV for both my freshman and sophomore season, but eagerly looking forward to playing on the varsity team next year. This past season was one of my best seasons in that I was averaging 14.8 PPG, and found myself as a natural leader and playmaker on the floor. My high school coach described me as the player on the team that can look at the game in its entirety and make good decisions under pressure. I strongly feel that my greatest contrition to your program is my versatility to be placed in a number of positions with confidence that the level of excellence you expect will be met. I have the ability to work within a team as well as being a self-starter with strong core beliefs, that would help make your institution shine in continued excellence.
My priorities are to God, family and school, but my passion is basketball. Everything I do on and off the court is devoted to basketball and striving to make me not only a better player, but leader. Weekly, I play with my father in a men’s league with guys who played or are currently playing at a collegiate level in an attempt to help improve on my skills. They provide me with advice and ways to get better every time I play, but I have found that playing in the men’s league has strengthened my confidence to play at a higher level. They also push me harder and never give me a pass because I am a girl. My biggest goal is to play division 1 basketball. I work constantly and will not give up until I reach my goals. When I reach my goals I push even further to better help myself and my team.
