Personal Statement
Sydney is in transition with a letter of release in hand, after a freshman year with Alabama A&M University 's women's basketball team. The university athletic program is under post-season probation, making her a potential player at any level in the upcoming 16-17 season. In the 2015-16 season she played in 27 games, started in 8, and had game high scores of 10 points versus Ole Miss, Prairie View A&M and Alabama State. She is hopeful of an opportunity with an accomplished university and team program that affords the best opportunity to fulfil her interests and provides unique growth experiences that hone and round her mentally, academically, socially and athletically. A communications/media major, Sydney hopes to become a sports broadcaster, is interested in information technology, the music industry and modeling.
Sydney is an avid and active basketball player since age five and fearless competitor on the court, participating in summer league, and AAU basketball as a member and starting guard of the Maryland Flames (2011), One on None Basketball (2012), and Peak Performance Basketball in 2014. She has started as point guard since her freshman year at Clarksburg HS in Clarksburg, MD and the starting point guard and team leader as a transfer student at Eagles Landing Christian Academy (ELCA), McDonough, GA in the 2013-14 school year, where she completed her high school career in 2015. She made an immediate impact leading her HS team from a 7-19 record the previous year to a 20-8 record in 2014, a 21-8 record in 2015, and for first and consecutive appearances beyond regular season back to back play in the elite eight state playoffs. She is a leader, has great court vision, is a masterful ball handler, quick, nimble, creates opportunities for other teammates, distributes the ball well and is unrelenting. Her favorite female players are Skylar Diggins, Maya Moore and Diana Taurasi.
