Personal Statement
Determined. Fearless. Caring. These three words make me who I am.
Determined. I started playing basketball when I was in the fifth grade. I realized that I was starting later than many other players, and that motivates me to learn as much as I can. People telling me that I am unable to do something drives me to try even harder. I am determined to be the best I can possibly be, and I am determined to do all that I can to fight against any athlete’s biggest enemy: complacency.
Fearless. I am aggressive and competitive on the court on both offense and defense. While I was the leading scorer my freshman year, I had to really take a leadership position my sophomore year. Oftentimes, I am challenged to play against someone who is taller, quicker, or physically stronger than me. Although my team and I may not always come out victorious, I love to embrace that challenge.
Caring. I want to go into a career as a Special Educator. My cousin and uncle both have special needs. I have learned so much from them. They truly inspire me to not be judgmental and to understand the importance of patience. People with disabilities will always have a special place in my heart. As a Student Government class officer, my love for my class is beyond words. They motivate me to improve school conditions and coordinate events. They drive me to be a better person and have taught me the importance of unity. I also seek to help establish that feeling of team unity on every team that I am a part of. I seek to not only lead verbally, but by example as well. Team chemistry is important to me, and I consider getting to know my teammates and forming new relationships as one of my favorite parts of basketball. I look forward to these new experiences while playing collegiately.
