Personal Statement

My name is Kate Jackman.  I have a dream to become a college basketball player.  My mom put me in dance when I was young then one day a coach asked if I could play on the basketball team.  I was hooked from then on.   I now enjoy varsity soccer and track as well. There are 2 things that set me apart from other players.  First, I am the most versatile player on the court.  I have played basketball since the 3rd grade and I have played in every position over the last 8 years.  Today I can step onto the court and defend the opposing center.  I can run the point guard position.  I know each position well and am confident in my preparation to do all of them.  I love it when I guard a taller post player and the opposing team yells out, "Mismatch!"  They are disappointed when their post player isn't effective against me.  The second thing that sets me apart from other players is my unending supply of enthusiasm and passion for the game.  I bring a sense of excitement to the rest of the team whether it is a one point game or a twenty point game.  Basketball has taught me about work and perseverance and teamwork.  I have overcome the criticism of others to excel in the fantastic sport of basketball.  I am looking for a program that fits me academically and athletically.  I am excited to work with you in the recruiting process.

Take care,

Kate
