Personal Statement
Basketball is my passion. I enjoy playing, coaching, and watching basketball. Each time I enter the gym, I strive to give 100 percent in a game or at practice. I work hard every day and push myself to become a better player. Basketball has given me the opportunity to develop as an athlete, a leader (both on and off the court), and a student. My dream is to be able to play basketball at the collegiate level and to coach a team of my own someday.
As a team captain, I lead my team on and off the court and in practice. I try to set good examples for all and to get everyone to come together as a team to be the best that we can be. I always bring a high energy level to practices and games which helps me succeed and motivate my teammates to work harder and play tougher. In addition to being a player, I am, and have been for two seasons, an assistant coach for a 4th/5th Grade AAU Girls Basketball Team. I enjoy the opportunity to share my experiences with them, to pass on my basketball knowledge to them, and to inspire them to learn the game, train hard, and develop their skills. It is rewarding to me to see the girls use the skills that I have taught them to develop good habits and become better basketball players. Basketball has also helped me become a better student. I have been a successful student because I apply the same focus and drive that I have on the court to my studies.
My goal is to continue improving so that I can be a student athlete in college and hopefully a coach after college. I will be able to take the skills I have learned on the court and from my coaches and teammates and use them in my work, family, and athletic life after college.
