Personal Statement
I began playing basketball at the age of 5 for a park district team and have been part of a program and a passionate sports fan ever since. My enthusiasm along with the ambitious support from my parents has motivated me to pursue a career in basketball from the beginning. Having an early start and developing a natural passion for the game has shaped who I am today.
I am fortunate and grateful for the team dynamics and sportsmanship that I have gained from each program. I have been a member of school teams and AAU travel since 5th grade. My IHSA state medals include a 3rd place state finish during my freshman year, a Class 3A State Championship during my sophomore year, and three sectional titles. My AAU travel team is Mac Irvin Lady Fire based in Chicago.
I have learned that rigid and incessant practice—although challenging—yields the most rewarding experiences. Examples that were rewarding to me include memorable streaks of improvement in my defensive skills and capacity to guard elite athletes at the highest level, while playing for Mac Irvin Lady Fire. My offensive skills and long-range shooting have also developed and made me a more difficult player to guard.
As I approach my senior year, I will continue exploring which academic areas best suit my interests and talents. Looking ahead to college, I want to research available programs and design a first-year course plan that accommodates my research as well as my athletic career. So far, I have looked into studies involving occupational therapy or education.
I have overcome common and unique challenges in the past few years. One main challenge has been managing a schedule where I have balanced school work, team practices, personal health, strict physical training, and personal interests. I challenge myself by prioritizing my performance and continuous self-improvement during season and travel. I have overcome disappointments such as missing extended family visits, summer trips, and some social activities. However, I have discovered that being positive about such inconveniences has strengthened my dedication, opened more doors, and helped me appreciate the eventfulness of continuous seasons.
I consider myself a strong team player and I always strive for synergy. I am often complimented for being selfless and humble with the right amount of confidence. What I think is most unique about me as an athlete is my resilience and keeping collected during havoc on the court. I am friendly and sociable, which has allowed me to build strong, long-lasting relationships with teammates and coaches.
