I absolutely love basketball. Since I was nine years old I’ve had two dreams, to play basketball professional and/or become a successful recording artist. As the years have passed my basketball dream has been modified to become a great basketball player. I am blessed with the vocals skills but I had to work exceptional hard to become a great basketball player.
My journey has been a paved with disappointments, lessons learned and great accomplishments I would not trade for anything. My journey began with a disappointing freshman year of basketball where I didn’t see much court time. This prompted me to badger my parents to get a basketball in our front yard. I practiced my drippling on my back patio, I joined the Crosscountry team, I started strength and condition training and I trained one-on-one with skills and development trainer. I even began recruiting local kids, that had no knowledge of basketball, to play and shoot around with me. By my sophomore year, I was named the starting shooting guard for my junior varsity team and played some varsity. My sophomore season culminated with my varsity team win the Mississippi Valley Conference 3A Reginal title. This accomplishment helped my confidence rise and fueled my desire to work harder. The summer of my sophomore year heading into my junior year my select team’s coach need a point guard so I accepted the challenge. Admittedly, I did not have a great select basketball season but that experience forced me to see areas of my game that I could improve. I worked diligently on my ball handled skills and ball control. My junior year I was selected to play varsity for my high school, I was a little disappointed that I was not named the starting point guard but there was another lesson learned. I realized need to experience and leadership to lead me varsity team. As the season progressed I was given the opportunity to share the starting point guard position. I was named the most improved player this year. As a team the was a bit disappointing my high school team lost in the regional championship to a team that when on to take third in state. Heading into the 2016 AAU basketball season I reflected on my past experience and I believe these experiences directly contributed to my personal accomplishment and my team’s overall success. This season I was selected as the starting point guard for my AAU team. I averaged 11 points per game, 2 steals per game, shot 79 percent free throws, and shot 49percent from the field. My team played in a total of nine tournaments and of the nine we place in second in three of them and third in four of them. Heading into senior year I look forward to leading me varsity team to a successful season with hopes of a state championship.
As I look to the future, I can truly say that I am grateful for the opportunity to continue me education and possible play basketball. I’m a hard worker academically and athletically and my high school career have prepared me for the challenges a student athlete faces. Having played on select basketball teams, AAU teams and Mascoutah High School the past 3 years I have developed into an outstanding scoring point guard and unselfish team player who continually pushes myself to exceed expectations and to surpass my own goals. I am a team-oriented player who excels at passing the ball. I am a good listener with a positive attitude. I work hard at getting my team involved and gives 100 percent every day while training and playing. I am a tenacious defender and take pride in my defense. I believe my experience, positive attitude and work ethic would make me a great addition to any college basketball program.
