Personal Statement
My name is Lauryn Merritt. I attend Maconaquah School in Bunker Hill, IN. I am a 6'4 center/forward with a goal to play basketball at the next level. I run cross country and track and play basketball for my High School. I am a junior and earned my Varsity letter for both my freshman and sophomore basketball seasons. I was a starter during the 2021-2022 season. Unfortunately, I missed my entire junior season due to a torn ACL and rehab from that injury. I had surgery in July 2022 and returned to my AAU team for my first games in 10 months in March 2023. I am stronger both physically and mentally after going through the extensive rehab from that injury! I have gone through physical therapy, strength training, linear speed training and multi-directional speed training. I have also taken some mindset classes to overcome any mental hurdles that may be in my path.
I'm a member of Always 100 Wright 2024 team. In previous summers, I played for IGB and Indiana Flight I am an A Honor roll student in school and have had to work extra hard in my studies as I am dyslexic! That has not stopped me from earning high grades, taking AP classes and obtaining a 4.0 GPA and rank in the top 12% of my class.
I am a 5th generation corn, soybean and pig farmer and love working on our farm. I've developed a strong work ethic through having my own livestock to take care of everyday, helping my dad with planting and harvest seasons and working in the barns to take care of our pigs.
I have developed time management skills from balancing basketball, cross country, track, school and my extracurricular activities. I am President of my FFA Chapter, President of the Miami County Junior Leaders, Treasurer of National Honor Society, a member of Student Council, an 9-year member of 4-H, have raised over $36,000 for my local food pantry, member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. a leader in multiple community service projects and am active in my church youth group.
I am a very coachable player and my coaches have told me that I work hard but I can make the team laugh when everyone gets stressed!
