Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Kerena Ansone, I am 18. I live in Europe, Latvia. I come from family of 5 kids. That has taught me the respect, love and caring for my teammates, because I had to have someone’s back my whole life.
I started playing basketball in 4th grade, but as far as I can remember myself, have always watched my brother play. The love for basketball is going through my family for generations.
When I was 10, my brother moved to USA to play basketball in NCAA, and since then, being a student athlete in States has been my dream.
Athletic career
I am 5’11, playing as shooting guard / small forward. My primary hand is right. I am unique in the ability to not only concentrate on the offense, but also be the first one on defense. My coach has always taught me - Offense starts from great defense.
I have played in four different clubs - two in youth league and two in professional league.
I respect the game and all the people I have played with. I have had the opportunity to learn the game from many great coaches. I have been a candidate for the Latvia’s national team u14; u16 twice; u17 and u20.
On top of that, I have also always been on the top of my class and have received many academic awards. Every teacher, friend and coach is amazed about how I am able to work this hard at basketball and be one of the best ones in school. I love to help my teammates with homework and courses they do not understand, and help them grow as students.
I am looking forward to be a student in an university of elite academic level, because basketball and education is my priority, and I am putting all my effort and hard-work to achieve my goals.
In conclusion I would like to mention that coaches tend to say that I am very coachable, respectful and caring teammate. I love the game and receiving a scholarship, and being a student athlete has been my number 1 dream always.
