Personal Statement
My name is Aliya Rahman and I have dreamed about competing at the collegiate level for as long as I can remember. Basketball has been my entire life for about 11 years now, and yes - although it was not easy and there were times where I wanted to give up, I chose to persevere. Because of that, I am where I am now. I strived in AAU, making about three to four three-pointers a game. I now play for the Maryland Shooting Stars, where I have worked to become aggressive and defensively sound in addition to improving my shot. Recently, because of my performance during AAU season, I was selected to play in the team USA U17 olympic trials. I made my high school varsity team at Thomas S. Wootton High School my freshmen year and I just finished up my second year of playing on varsity, where I got to improve my basketball IQ and learn structured basketball. However, basketball has not consumed my life. I continue to keep up my grades and an A average, because academics is something I take extremely seriously. Outside of basketball, I found time to write a 400 page novel. Writing is a career I wish to pursue. Also, besides writing, I make time to produce visual art and play guitar. These activities, along with basketball, are all passions of mine. That's why I like to think of myself as well rounded and not one dimensional in the slightest.
