Hi my name is Maddy Steel,
I started playing basketball in 4th grade for the B team of my town travel program. I made the A team in 5th grade, which is when I began to fall in love with the sport. The spring of 5th grade I joined an AAU team and vastly improved my standard of play. Over the next three years I continued to work as hard as I could on all aspects of my game, becoming a starter on both my town and AAU teams, culminating with winning the national championship in Harrisburg, Virginia, in my 8th grade year.
During my freshman year of high school, I made the varsity team at Bishop Feehan High School. Along with being an offensive threat, my coaches continue to tell me my hustle and defensive presence are what set me apart. I focus on conditioning to ensure that I am always ready, no matter how deep into a game I am. My AAU coach has called on me to make the final play of a close game over a dozen times. I have always made the basket, whether it be a three from the corner, or two free throws with 0.1 second left on the clock.
Along with playing basketball, academics are a crucial focus for me. I am enrolled in all Honors 1 classes, the highest level at my school, and am in a higher math class than most other freshmen. I earn mostly A's across the board, with an occasional B+. Aside from playing basketball, I have also played lacrosse since I was in 1st grade and soccer since I was 4 years old. I work with a strength and conditioning coach one to two times a week. On top of that I work with two private coaches for basketball to work on different aspects of my game.
For college, I am seeking a school with a strong academic program along with an outstanding basketball program. I have set my goals high for basketball and academics. I aspire to play D1 college basketball along with attending med school, with my ultimate goal of becoming a surgeon. I believe that my work ethic sets me apart from other players and makes me an attractive candidate for any team. I am not afraid to put in the work and effort it takes to reach my goals, which I plan on making into a reality.
