Personal Statement

I am a team player. I persevere. I am determined. I work hard. Yes, this is how I describe myself. My long term goals include playing basketball at the collegiate level and the qualities I mentioned above are vital to the success of every college level basketball team.   Ever since the second grade I've had a love of the game and knew that is all I wanted to do.  In short, I've been a "gym rat" for many years.  I've followed my dad and sister to the gym, where I experimented and worked on my own game. Last year I decided to play volleyball. Other than gym class, I have never played volleyball. This year I made the All-Area Team and lead the team in service points.

I take my role "off the court" very seriously. I currently have a 4.13 weighted GPA , and am a member of Student Council. My service learning hours total over 80 hours.  I will continue to work in my community throughout the next year and beyond. I am a member of the National Honor Society,

As for my short term goals,  I intend to improve my mental, leadership, and basketball skills, as well as my physical strength each year.  My high school team won the Maryland 1A State Championship in 2014, and in 2015 and 2016 were the MD 1A State Semifinalists. In all games, I was the starting point guard and played the full game.  For the second year in a row I was named to the All Tournament team in the state finals, 2nd team All State and All State Academic, First-team All-Conference and All Area, third overall in scoring in the area, first in free-throw percentage and lead the area in three point shooting percentage.   I recently broke the school record (boys and girls) for 3 point field goals in a season with 77 total.  During the regular season I shot 49% from the 3 point range. My plan is to help my team win another state championship before I graduate!  It's possible.
