Personal Statement

My name is Madison Showerman and playing basketball has always been a passion of mine!  I first started playing in a community league when I was in third grade and that's when I fell in love with the game.  Living in northern Michigan has made it difficult to find a consistently high level of competition.  In sixth grade I began playing AAU and have had the opportunity to play with teams out of Gaylord, Mt. Pleasant, Lansing, and Bellaire Michigan.  I've been all over Michigan, Indiana, and as far south as North Carolina in tournaments.  I'm a 3 year starter and 2 year captain on my high school team.
As much as I love to score baskets I pride myself on being a great defender.  My coaches often times put me on the best player on the opposing team and I love to shut people down!  Because I'm 5'11" and very athletic, I'm versatile enough to guard smaller players on the outside or even girls much bigger than me inside.
Playing with girls from other schools on AAU teams has improved my game tremendously and I enjoy making new friendships!  I work hard to prove myself to my coaches and teammates.  I'm not afraid of hard work or a challenge and rise to the occasion!  One year I played on an AAU team located two and half hours away and had to make the commute to practice twice a week while still maintaining my 3.8 GPA.  My first priority is always my grades and I am a member of the National Honor Society and have managed to keep a 3.8 GPA or above since I started school in kindergarten!
Once I have the opportunity to play at the college level I will commit to working hard and striving to constantly improve my game!  I look forward to the new challenges, friendships, and welcome the opportunity!
