Personal Statement
I have always known that I wanted to play college sports. While I excel in academics, so far the highlight of my high school career has been playing sports. While I have not played on any AAU basketball teams, I am a three sport athlete who has made varsity for all three teams for a class A school (volleyball, basketball, and soccer). For the past six summers I have attended a camp (Camp Miniwanca) for 3 weeks which focuses on an outdoor camping experience which has included a 500 mile bike ride around Northern Michigan, canoeing, hiking and kayaking the Georgian Bay. This camp emphasizes survival skills, team building, and mental and physical challenges.
My basketball season as a sophomore got better and better as the season went along. Starting as center, I was the second highest scorer for the team. I started off slow but finished my last game with 19 points. I received All-Conference Honorable Mention and earned the Most Improved Player Award from my coaches. My Junior Year, I was elected a Co-Captain and was again, the second highest scorer on the team. I received First Team All Conference. Since I started playing sports, all of my coaches have told me that I am the hardest working player on the team, and my work ethic has never been in question. When most people first meet me they think I am very intimidating and quiet, however, I become a more outgoing, confident person while playing sports. I have just finished my Junior year and am looking forward to a HUGE senior year. I continue to train with weights and conditioning to further my strength, jump, and performance. I do not have a sound grasp on exactly what my future should look like but I know I want to be a college athlete. Getting an excellent college education is my primary goal and if I can be part of a strong team at the same time my college experience will be even better.
