Personal Statement

Hi, my name is Isabel Anderson and I’d like to tell you a little bit about myself. I am a Senior at Petoskey High School in northern lower Michigan and I love sports! I currently am playing four varsity sports for our Class A, Division 2 high school. In the fall, I play volleyball (and travel soccer), in the winter I play basketball and in the spring I dual sport soccer and track. In volleyball, I was All-Area Dream Team and received All-Conference honorable mention and A-Area Dream Team. During the basketball season, I have been a starter since my freshman year and received All-Area first team and All-Conference honorable mention. I lead the team in assists, was the 2nd highest scorer 3 years in a row and broke the single season steals record. During the soccer season, I received All-Conference 2nd Team, and was 2nd leading in both goals and assists. While dual sporting in track I have broken the school record for the high jump 4 times with my PR last season of 5'7" and placed 13th at the national indoor meet in NYC.  As a freshman, I was the only female to receive the “Triple-Crown” award for playing 3 varsity sports and as a sophomore and junior, I was the only recipient ever to receive the “Grand-Slam” award for playing 4 varsity sports.  Did I mention I LOVE sports?

I am interested in studying business which stems from working summers at my family’s recreation based company Big Bear Adventures. I’ve been working there since the age of 12 and have learned many useful skills such as interacting with guests, how to deal with customers and co-workers and gained marketing experience. I am also a member of DECA. While sports are very important to me, finding a college that matches my academic goals is equally important.

In my spare time, I like to mentor/coach the younger girls travel sports teams in our area including soccer, basketball and volleyball. When I was younger, I always enjoyed learning from the older girls and feel it’s important to give back to the community. I am always wanting to improve my skills and participate in multiple camps, clinics and 3-on-3 tournaments. If you can’t tell, I really enjoy a challenge and even played club travel soccer with the boy’s team for 8 seasons and joined the U-19 girls VARDAR club soccer team as an 8th grader. My friends and family are very important to me and my teams have always felt like an extension of my family. There is nothing I love more than being part of a team!

I believe my biggest assets that would add value to your program are my speed, agility and quick reflexes. Being ambidextrous has also been an advantage to my successes. Basketball may be my first love, but I am open to participating in more than one sport in college. Although I am extremely competitive, I have a great sense of humor and like to have fun. I appreciate you taking time to learn about me and my interests.
