Personal Statement

Earning a college degree has always been a goal throughout my schooling.  It is a family expectation, as is being involved in school activities.  From third grade I have played basketball and made it the sport I have been passionate about for almost a decade.

My basketball skills have been strong in team play, solid defense, steady scoring, great passing, and leadership on and off the court, I have always been willing to go the extra mile.  Part of my daily routine is to go to school and shoot from 6-7 am before class begins. I have organized team events, travel plans for camps, and coordinated team equipment needs (ordering shoes, warm-ups...). Since 6th grade I have played on Select basketball teams with the opportunity to travel and play with and compete against some of the best players in the nation.

Education has always been important and I work hard to keep my grades high and prepare for college.  I also know its important to be involved in other activities and give back to the community.  I have volunteered at 5th grade camp, Safety Town (a program for 6 and 7 year olds), elementary basketball camps, and in a local kindergarten class.

My goal is to attend a college where I can earn a great education and play basketball to follow that passion as well.  I am looking for a college which will provide both of these opportunities, as well as foster community and school relationships.  I plan on following my parents into the field of education to be a teacher and eventually an administrator and continue to the dedication to education and learning.
