Brooke Turek '17 Recruiting Profile

As I was lacing up my shoes getting ready for the state game, I couldn’t help but to think back to when I was a small child learning to lace them up for the first time. Sports and physical activity have been a part of my life ever since my brother and I started preschool. When I was four years old my dad asked me if I wanted to go to a basketball camp and of course I said yes. That was the day the passion was lit. From that moment I honestly cannot remember a day that sports were not included in my everyday routine. In 4^th grade my dad became my coach. Under his helm and two of my best friend’s dads we won just about every tournament we played in. He taught me to push myself 110% all the time and eventually the hard work will pay off. In junior high his words rang true. My fellow Bobcats and I were undefeated both my 7^th and 8^th grade year. Eager to start high school we had high hopes.

Throughout high school I have played volleyball, basketball, and ran track. Basketball has always had my heart because of all the hours dedicated to my improvement. The ultimate dream for any athlete is qualifying for the state tournament. After 13 years of hard work and dedication the dream finally came true. My junior year my teammates and I participated in the NSAA Girls Basketball State Championships; only the second time in school history and it was a rush like no other seeing the stands packed with Bobcat fans from my tiny hometown of only 800 people. We did it! We overcame injuries, shin splints, adversities and made school history.

I also participated in the NSAA Track and Field Championships. The icing on the cake was with my other two sports: volleyball and track. In volleyball we were rather successful setting the best wins record in school history. I love every part of being in the gym. I have experience with weight and conditioning training and have realized that this is also a very important part of becoming successful. With this experience I want to share my knowledge with a younger generation.

Once I graduate from Hemingford High I hope to receive a basketball scholarship to Chadron State College, University of Nebraska Kearney, or Black Hills State University. I also plan to major in Physical Education and earn a coaching endorsement. Once my college journey is complete, I hope to return to a rural area that has a small town atmosphere with trusting occupants that have a big heart and support for children.

Participating in athletics has made me realize that Physical Education is the best fit for me. I enjoy interacting with kids and I love playing sports so I think it is perfect. I have total commitment in fulfilling these dreams of becoming a Physical Education teacher and one day a successful caring coach.
