Personal Statement
I love everything about sports. Watching, coaching and especially playing. I attend every high school sporting event I can to support my school and my friends, coach elementary students at our school sports camps, and love watching college sports and the Olympics. I played softball and soccer until middle school when I had to give up softball in order to participate in track. I continued playing club soccer through eighth grade, but can’t play in high school because it’s the same season as track. I even got to fulfill a dream of playing quarterback during a Powderpuff game. However, my true passion is for basketball.
I have been playing basketball since first grade. It’s part of who I am and what I aspire to be…an invaluable member of a college women’s basketball team. In middle school, our Lincoln Lutheran A Team was invited to the Lutheran Basketball National Tournament of Champions in Valparaiso, Indiana. Even though we lost our first two games, it is an experience I will never forget and the feeling of playing on a college court in that atmosphere inspired me to want to go further and make playing basketball in college my top priority.
Since I started playing club ball in third grade, every coach I have ever played for has told me I am a very coachable player. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for my coaches’ honest feedback. I’m always eager to learn and willing to put in the extra time and effort necessary to be a successful student athlete.
My favorite part of basketball is being part of a team. It takes a solid, unified team working together to win games and be successful. I am proud to be a team player with great court awareness and a high basketball IQ. I enjoy watching game film (I know…that’s weird) and discussing new plays and ways to improve with my coaches. Although we haven’t gone to state since I’ve played varsity, it is one of my dreams before I graduate and I’ll do everything I can to help us get there.
As a junior, I led my team in three-point shooting, assists, deflections, steals, blocks, and rebounds. Academically I have received all-conference honors as a freshman, sophomore and junior and have made honor roll or high honor roll every semester. With my continued hard work and desire to learn, I am hoping to secure an opportunity to play college basketball for a school that offers exceptional academics and a competitive women’s basketball program with strong student and fan support.
