Personal Statement
For as long as I can remember athletics has been a
major part of my life. Probably not so surprising,
my mom was a two-sport high school athlete
and my father and older sister have both played
sports at the collegiate level. I currently play
play three varsity sports, Volleyball, Basketball, and
Softball. I believe that team work and the "We before
Me" attitude that I have learned has has shaped
me to be a leader. I think my involvement in
athletics has instilled leadership qualities as well as lessons
that will hopefully aid me in maneuvering through
life's obstacles.
My love of sports and athletic competition has always been
always been encouraged by my family. My dad coached
my sister and I in just about every youth sport
we played. At the time, I did not realize that he was
not only teaching us the skills required to play that
sport but, he was also teaching us skills required to be a
leader. Now as I reflect I realize the value of
respect, effort, determination, and attitude, all qualities
that must be in a leader’s makeup. I have been lucky
enough to be able to volunteer coach youth softball,
basketball, and volleyball over the past 4 years. Like
my dad, I don't just teach the skills required to excel at
that sport but also values required to achieve success
in life.
I am very interested in continuing my education in one
of the Engineering fields. In closing, these are the
core values that have been taught to me throughout
life. Respect others, simply treat people how
you would want to be treated. Determination,
always a requirement to reach the highest standards.
Give 110% effort to meet or even exceed your
established goals. Live life with a positive attitude,
it will influence others to follow.
