Personal Statement
My name is Chanel Taylor and I am a point guard/shooting guard from Central Islip, New York. I have been a starter on varsity since the 9th grade. My graduation year is 2017 and my GPA is a 90. I am ranked the 14th best, junior, female basketball player, on Long Island (www.goldstarelite.com). I became interested in basketball in the 8th grade when I played for the Central Islip junior varsity team. Playing in front of an audience and hearing people cheering for me made me realize how much I enjoy playing. Playing basketball has helped me become a leader, relentless and I never give up on things I love.
My collegiate goal is to be a student-athlete. I am interested in going to college because I feel like college is the key to success. Playing basketball will enhance my college experience because I will be doing what I love.
I would be a good candidate for any team because I am an all-around great player. I am good at defense because, I get a lot of steals, rebounds, and I can guard multiple positions. I am good at breaking a press, pushing the ball, and penetrating the defense to create open shots for my teammates and for myself. I am very adaptable. This summer I was asked to play with three different AAU teams. With all of these teams, I quickly adjusted to the way they played, and the role I needed to fulfill. I also know how to play in the post. Posting up guards gives me an advantage because most guards never learned how to defend the post.
My character is different because I am determined to win and have a positive attitude. I do everything in my power to get high grades. I always do my homework, hand assignments in on time, do extra credit, and study. My academic goals for high school is to get my advanced regents diploma, and have a GPA higher than 92. In college I want to major either business, engineering, or something in the medical field.
