I have always viewed the game of basketball as a metaphor for life. The lessons I have learned by playing the sport have translated effectively in the way I endeavor to live. A point guard requires good vision and the ability to see the floor as the play develops. I have trained myself to see situations as they actually exist and to place circumstances that I encounter, hopefully, in the proper perspective. It is imperative for the point guard to make good decisions. I believe that I have exercised this decision making process in the way that I handle social situations and select friends. A point guard must be unselfish and yet at the same time be a team leader. I have performed extensive volunteer work since the seventh grade as part of earning an International Baccalaureate Certificate through my school. A large part of that work involved working with mentally and physically challenged children and leading them by example in the participation of sports. A point guard must be fiercely competitive. I have never been intimidated by a challenge whether it is in the classroom or on the court.
My personal goal at the college level is to be afforded the best opportunity to participate in a demanding academic and athletic program that will continue to help me grow as a person and further prepare me for life.
