Personal Statement

Hi, my name is Jayla Bruguier. Most people call me Jay or JayJay. I am a 5’5 1/2” shooting guard. I also play point guard. I am currently a freshman at Wagner Community School and will graduate in 2024. I will strive to be the best player on the court and in the classroom. For as long as I can remember, I have always loved basketball. It seems as if it’s always been apart of me. I would want nothing more than to build a strong bond with my team and coaches at both the high school and collegiate level. Playing at the college level has been one of my biggest dreams. As an eighth grader, I had the opportunity to play with the girls varsity basketball team. I have learned many new things individually as well as my role on the team. I will work on improving my game amongst older, stronger, and competitive girls, in hopes to make myself and the team better. I am a hard worker on and off the court. I’m very determined to reach my goals academically and athletically. My educational career is also extremely important to me as I know that will help me after high school in pursing my college dreams. I am still undecided on what field of study to be in at this point. Besides basketball, I am also an all-around athlete and enjoy sports very much! They have taught me how to be a better person and role model for younger generations, including my siblings. They have also taught me about leadership and helping others. I hope to take the values, hard work, and skills of basketball to a college team.
