Personal Statement
Basketball has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. My love for the game has grown, from playing recreation league for my dad to competing at the Varsity level in high school.
“Dedicated” is the term most often used to describe my work ethic. Whether Its getting to the gym every morning an hour earlier than anyone else to work on my shooting, its spending my summer working on my speed and agility or its Sunday afternoons working with my shooting coach, I am determined and dedicated to improving.
I am a consistent left-handed shooter, including 3-pointers and free throws, with strong ball handling skills and a high basketball IQ. All of my coaches have expressed appreciation of my listening skills and hard work on and off the floor. I have been able to assume leadership roles by being vocal, encouraging and leading by example.
My dedication on the court is also seen in the classroom. I maintain good relationships with my teachers and keep open communication. This has allowed them to provide tutoring time between practices and games. I have plans to take my SAT this summer, before my junior year.
"Goodness is about character - integrity, honesty, kindness, generosity, moral courage, and the like. More than anything else, it is about how we treat other people." I have spent time mentoring elementary players at camp, going with my team to feed the homeless, but nothing compares to the enjoyment I have had the last three years working with our local Special Olympics basketball team. It feeds my character to be able to share the gifts God has given me.
