I was four years old when I scored my first two points in a basketball game playing for the YMCA. After that moment, I became devoted to playing basketball. I earned the MVP for Best Athlete award in 8th grade. After earning that award, my focus shifted to mentally preparing myself to play basketball at the varsity level in high school. As a freshman, I earned a starting position on the varsity high school basketball team. I was also nominated District 2-5A 1st Team All-District and on the Top Big Women basketball list in the State of Texas as a freshman. I also play volleyball and earned a starting position on the varsity volleyball team as a freshman as well. I was nominated District 2-5A 1st team All-District as a sophomore for volleyball.
Unfortunately, at the beginning of basketball season of my sophomore year. I tore my ACL. However, this injury did not interfere with my devotion to basketball. It was a minor setback for me in playing basketball my sophomore year, but it gave me a chance to get stronger physically and also mentally. During that time, I focused on getting healthier and also improve my academic grades. I was inducted into the National Honor Society and I am still a member going into my senior year. My freshman, sophomore and junior year, I earned District 2-5A Academic All-District for basketball and volleyball.
I’m a team leader and I understand that through my actions, I have to set a good example for my team and for the young ladies that look up to me. I am very coachable, a great listener and I can take constructive criticism very well when it comes to things that I need to improve on or things I need to change. I have great ball handling skills, and after rehabbing on my knee for 7 months I have enhanced my mental toughness and physical strength. I want to be able to attend a college where I can focus on my academics and major in Physical Therapy while playing basketball at the highest competitive level possible.
