My family has always stressed the importance of a good education. I understand that in order to get into a good college, it takes hard work and dedication to academics, but I know that being active in other activities is important to becoming a well-rounded person. That is why I began at the age of 4, playing soccer, but after being introduced to basketball at age 10, I found my love! I have worked hard to catch up with the skills of athletes who have played a lot longer than me while I was playing soccer. I am still growing and learning the game because I aspire to play and dominate at the collegiate level.
The same hard work I put into my game is the same that I have in the classroom and in my activities at church. All of my teachers and sponsors love having me around as a leader. In school, I plan to keep my gpa above 3.5, and plan to remain an officer in my church organization. I always want to be the best I can be and I know that there is always room for improvement.
While watching the NCAA men & women athletes play, I have noticed how they have a team concept and are disciplined and fundamentally sound. This comes with consistent practice. I am continuing to develop the fundamentals and leadership it takes to get to that level. Players like Andrew Harrison and Moriah Jefferson-both native Texans- put aside their individuality when need be and sacrifice for their team. That concept sets me apart from my peers. I play unselfish team ball and am respectful to my teammates and coaches which is rarely seen with athletes my age. Many want to play a two man game or dribble around until they can get their shot, all while other teammates are actively watching and available. This is not my style- individuals win games, teams win championships.
Keeping God first in my life, relying on family and friends, and believing in myself is what it takes to be successful not only on the court and in the class, but in LIFE!
