Personal Statement
(I go to coffeyville community college, which is a juco in kansas) Hello! A little about myself, I started playing basketball in 7th grade as a post on C team, 8th grade there was no C team so i was unfortunately cut. Through that summer I debated doing basketball in high school, until my high school head varsity coach came up to me and asked if i played basketball and he convinced me, I started really playing in 9th grade. I became a starting post on the freshman team (#30) Too stubborn to train with my dad, I attended school practices and occasionally went to the gym to shoot and work on my game. I was leading scorer and got MVP at banquet with a season high of 22 points in one game. Our freshman team lost two games the whole 24 game season! Through the summer i trained with and worked with my dad. 10th grade year I was a starter on Junior Varsity (#22) Due to numerous injuries we did not win many games this season due to a lack of team chemistry. I improved my free throw technique and worked on playing through the tough times. Also worked on my post game with my dad and Coach Asp. The summer before my junior year (2014) A select coach saw me playing at school and recruited me for his select team. My parents and I went to other tryouts but ended up on Texas Flame the team that originally offered us. Through the summer season my coach Tim Bush started asking my dad to help coach and we became very successful and went on a five game win streak, earning first at a tournament in Trimble Tech. Throughout this long select season my coach called me "flyswatter" because of how much i blocked the ball. 13 blocks in one game saved us from losing in the last few seconds of a tied game. My core strength is defense, but my free throw has gotten a lot better and my shot as a whole is a lot better than it was before this summer started. Working on my offense i'm trying to become a stronger power forward by strengthening my dribbling. My coach calls me the leader of the team because everyone looked up to me and everyone wanted to be my friend, I tried to keep my team focused in practice and in pre-game warm-ups as well as help them keep their composure if we're losing. I can memorize plays very well which makes me a stronger team player knowing many positions. I hope to continue my basketball career playing at a D1 school.
