Hello College Coaches!
My Name is Katie Gowdy, and I am 18 years old, and I am a senior at Kingwood Park High School in Houston, Texas. I am 5'6 and I weigh about 125 Ibs. If you were to ask my coaches what I'm most useful for on the court, they would tell you that I am a solidly defensive player and have great speed. I started playing basketball in middle school and learned that I happened to be pretty fast with the ball. Every team I've played for in High School as well as AAU Club teams, has never had height. Lacking height, my team would have to get used to using our speed to win ball games, such as running the floor and scoring off of fast breaks. This year I recieved 1st Team All-District, My Junior year, I received Honorable Mention, as well as All-Tournament Team in The Aldine Invitational. Playing the game of basketball I have learned that not only is it a sport, but a test of character as well. Basketball for me is all summed up into one word, Motivation. Basketball motivates me to get better in the gym, keep my grades up, help my teammates improve, and I believe it just makes me an all around better person. Watching Maya Moore play for UCONN has definitely given me motivation to become a strong, confident basketball player like Maya herself. When I think about myself playing in college I see myself at a University that is very spirited with diversity. I love people from everywhere coming together to form one. Many super expensive schools are out of my reach because of the financial problems my family has, which has also pushed me to work harder in the gym to earn an education for playing a sport I love. Freshman goals i would like to set for myself consist of getting a firm amount of playing minutes on the court, and figuring out my role on that team and committing to that role and succeeding at it.
