Personal Statement
I became interested in basketball at the age of 7 when I started playing for a local little league. Once I aged out of that league I tried out for my 7th grade and 8th grade team, making them each year. Freshmen year I was so excited to try out for my first year of high school basketball. I played for the freshmen team my freshmen year and for the JV team my sophomore year although I was asked personally to practice with the varsity team. My junior year was very special to me because I was the only JV player from the year before who was placed on full varsity and did not swing. I worked so hard for that spot and I was so proud of myself for accomplishing my goal of starting on Varsity even if it wasn't every game. I've learned from basketball that I am a very hard worker and also that practice doesn't make perfect because no one is perfect, practice makes permanent so you should always practice the way you want to play. I have very big academic goals for my last year in high school, with 3 weighted classes on my senior schedule I am shooting for a 4.0+. I've overcome 2 very big obstacles while playing this sport. The first would have to be my father passing away during a season of little league when I was 8. My second obstacle and the most recent would be my knee injury. I had a torn patellar tendon and a torn meniscus and I a currently recovering from my surgery. I've gotten up at least 200 shots and worked on my handles everyday leading up to my surgery during our summer practices since that was all I could do, I still continue to go to my team's summer league games because I am a senior and I want to demonstrate dedication to the underclassmen. I am very playful and have a very bright personality but also I'm very soft spoken but once I hit the floor it's like a something is switched inside of me and I'm all business. I have a lot of guard skills even though I've been a post my whole career, I can guard a taller guard and take you off the dribble. Thank you for taking your time to read this, I hope to be speaking with you soon.
