Personal Statement

I would be a good candidate for your school's golf program because of my dedication to everything that I do, whether that be golf, academics, or in extracurricular activities.  When I set my mind to something, I will do whatever it takes to reach my goal and be successful.  I think what sets me apart from other possible recruits is that I am also involved in many activities outside of just golf at school as well as in within my community and state-wide.

The school I attend, Whitney High School, is ranked as the number one high school in California.  Although it is an honor to attend a school with such high standards, it also presents its challenges.  The classes are very rigorous and competitive.  I am proud of the fact that I have been able to maintain high grades and at the same time find a balance with academics and extracurricular activities.  A few of the extracurriculars I'm  involved in include ASB, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Girl Scouts, Girl Up, volleyball, and Key Club.  Within many of them I hold leadership positions like being the current President of FBLA and Treasurer of Girl Up.  In addition to being involved at school, I try to get involved in my community.  One example is that this past year, I was on the planning committee for the Relay for Life Cerritos-Artesia event for the American Cancer Society.  In college, I hope to be involved in organizations and hopefully make a difference at the school in addition to dedicating myself to your golf team.

One other thing that sets me apart from other recruits is that I only recently began playing in tournaments and golfing competitively.  While I did start playing golf 6 years ago, I didn't start playing competitively until about 2 years ago when I began considering playing golf in college.  Practicing and playing more often made me realize how much I enjoyed playing and how much fun it would be to continue my golfing career in college.  Although I don't have as many years of experience as other golfers, I think that I have potential to continue to improve and learn more about the game.  I am eager and ready to continue improving my golf game.  I understand that it may be difficult to balance both a busy golf schedule and academics, but I feel that being quite involved in high school and having a heavy workload has prepared me to be successful in college.
