Personal Statement
My name is Stephanie Yu ,and I am in the graduating class of 2018 at Palo Alto High School, in Palo Alto, California. I currently have an unweighted GPA of 4.0.
I am a player whose desire to play at the highest level in college is fueled by a passion simply for the game of golf. I strive to do my best and challenge myself in all aspects of my life, whether it be by shooting the lowest score possible for me or by maintaining my all A's report card. Despite having a bit of a competitive streak, I endeavor to display a positive attitude on and off the course. I can confidently say that I possess the self-motivation, perseverance and spirit that every champion has, because I used to be ranked #1 in the U.S. in my age division for badminton and won the 2012 U.S. Junior Nationals for U-13 girls singles.
I am a well-rounded player. Although I am decently long off the tee, averaging over 230 off the tee, my strengths lie in my short game. I possess finesse when chipping and aspire to sink all putts within 20 ft of the hole.
Because I have had to battle many health issues including shoulder and hip injuries, sleep apnea, severe allergies and gluten intolerance in the recent past, my scores have not always reflected the golfing potential I know I have. I am currently past all of these health concerns and focused on improving my game, intending to attend a college that will satisfy my athletic and academic ambitions and help me develop close relationships with my peers and teammates.
