Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Taylor Palmer, graduating class of 2019. I play varsity golf at Glynn Academy High School in Brunswick, Georgia. Since I was a young child, my family has enjoyed playing golf together. Three years ago, I decided I wanted to play the game competitively and I began taking private lessons. Since then I have started the process of preparing myself to play at the collegiate level. Through golf, I have not only learned the value of integrity, courtesy and sportsmanship but also the time, discipline and work ethic it takes to reach the next level.
I often write my goals on a posterboard and hang on my wall so that I can see them everyday. Last year my immediate goal in golf was to reduce my handicap by five strokes before my sophomore season ended. I reached my goal by reducing my handicap by six strokes. My next goal is to lower my tournament scoring average, win my high school's Regional Tournament, and finish top three in my State Championship. My academic goals for high school is to graduate at a minimum in the top ten percent of my graduating class and to maintain above a 3.5 GPA.
Golf has allowed me the platform to reach out and give back to my local community. I have been volunteering with The First Tee of the Golden Isles for the past three years and I have recently achieved my teaching certification as an instructor/leader through the Teen Leadership Program. I have also assisted The Jekyll Island Golf Club with youth summer golf camps for the past three years as a lead coach.
Ultimately, I would like to find a college that not only helps me to improve my golf game and further my education, but also to have the opportunity to be a valued team member and to continue my improvement as a player and a person. I believe that with hard work and dedication anything is possible.
