Personal Statement
Aloha!
My name is Zoey Yamamoto and attend Sacred Hearts Academy in Honolulu, HI.
I have been golfing since the age of 4 ½. I am currently a member of the Hawaii State Jr. Golf Association and the Oahu Jr. Golf Association. I have played a few USGA Women’s and Jr. Tournaments. My scoring average is 77 and my handicap is .8
I also enjoy playing basketball, which I started playing from the 4th grade and have worked very hard to make the Varsity squad in my freshman year.
When I am not playing or practicing golf or basketball, I do a martial art called Kendo. I have been taking Kendo since I was 9 years old. Kendo is the traditional way of the Samurai and we use bamboo swords and protective armor. This tradition has taught me commitment, honor and integrity, which I believe has helped me in all areas of my life, including school and my golf and basketball careers.
During the summer, I volunteer my time as a junior leader for our community summer fun programs. I have been a junior leader for the past 5 years and enjoy the responsibility and mentoring opportunities it provides. I also love to spend my time at the beach with my family and friends when I can.
I am looking for a college that will see me as a well-balanced individual who works hard and is willing to go the distance to perform in the classroom and on the golf course. I am learning to manage my student athlete life and look forward to the challenge of being a collegiate student athlete.
