Personal Statement
I began playing golf my freshman year of high school. Golf had been the sport that my father and brother had played. I was interested in seeing how I would feel about playing golf. Immediately I fell in love with the game. After two years of playing Varsity golf, I have decided that I want to further my golf career and play in college. I plan to go to a four year college and major in Biology/Chemistry. After going to a four year college, I plan to further my career path and enter into a PA (Physicians Assistant) school.
I believe that I have progressed quickly having only picked up the game two years ago. Starting as a freshman, my average tournament score was around 110, only five months after learning to play. My tournament average as a sophomore was 102. My tournament average this past summer was about 90. I think that while I have improved in my golf game, I have much more room to improve.
From my experience, I believe that it takes a certain type of person to be a golfer. In my opinion, there are many characteristics to being a good golfer. Dedication is very important to being a good golfer and in furthering my golf career. Each week my goal is to be out on the golf course between five to seven days working on different components of my golf game. I also believe that the mental aspect of golf is very important. Most golfers have some off days and I think that being able to come back from a bad shot is very important. I think that how you learn from the bad shot and improve on the next shot is a very good skill to have on the golf course.
Throughout my sixteen years I have played/tried all of the sports presented in front of me. I have played Soccer, Softball, Track & Field (discus), Basketball, Volleyball, and Golf. The only sport that I have truly had a passion for is golf. Everyday I think about what component of my golf game that can improve and how I should go about that.
Academics is a huge part of furthering my athletic career as a golfer. My current GPA is a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. I strongly believe that I can and will maintain that GPA through high school and college. Balancing academics and golf will be very important, but I know that it is something that I will be able to do.
