Personal Statement

My name is Cate Tompkins, my collegiate goals are to get a quality education and play golf. I would like to get a degree in Physical Therapy. I believe I would make a good addition to any team, I am a very hard worker and love the game of golf. I am easy going and easy to get along with.

I just started playing golf 3 years ago and have made drastic improvements. The first match I played in as a freshmen was the first time I had ever played 9 holes and I scored an 81. By the end of my freshmen year I was the #5 varsity player and shot my personal best at sectionals (107). As a sophomore I took over the number one position after the third match. I was a medalist four times and was an individual qualifier for Regional' s. I shot my personal best (92). I recently started Private lessons with John Fischer to improve my swing mechanics. My season scoring averages were 50.3/102 but the last two tournaments I competed in I scored 92 and 93.

Not my best day! But a day I will learn from. I shot 100 today and placed 18th. I made two very bad mistakes that cost me 4 strokes. On the first tee box I moved the tee marker. Yes, two stroke penalty before I hit my first shot. I also grounded my club in a marked hazard. I will never forget those two rules the rest of my life.

We had a long rain delay but I battled through very wet conditions to shoot 99. This was the first time I broke 100. I made a 10' putt on the 17th hole and a 12' putt on the eighteenth hole to break 100.
