Personal Statement
These past three years of playing serious golf have been the most challenging and fun part of high school. Golf is a part of my life and I wouldn't be the person I am today without it. I received my first set of clubs at the age of 10. My dad would bring me to the range frequently and play 9 holes every so often, but I never knew it would eventually become my top sport. As a little girl, I went from soccer to basketball to softball every sports season. But once I started to fall in love with this game, I decided to discontinue my other sports.
In the fall of eighth grade I decided to try out for the boys golf team at my middle-senior high school. I was put on the varsity team playing a few matches and played the following year also. My sophomore year I decided to switch back to my towns high school and no longer be school choice. At the new school I tried out for the boys team and was placed on JV. Going from a division 4 to division 1 high school, I wasn't disappointed in myself for not earning a varsity spot.
This past summer I have worked the hardest to my ability in my golf game. I have played in about 10 matches for the New England PGA Jr Tour. I got to play with other teenage girls who love the game just like me and I am beyond grateful to have that opportunity. As I started to improve my game (physically and mentally), I have decided that I want to play collegiate golf.
Once again I tried out for the boys golf team this year and earned a varsity spot. So far this golf season has been the best yet. As the only girl on varsity, I play with the boys on the team and honestly there is no one else I'd rather play with. They respect me and strive for me to get better. Not only am I challenged to play against these boys that constantly shoot under par, but the competition always makes me want play better and further improve. I am treated just like one of the boys and that is all I ask for. Golf is definitely the best thing I look forward after school everyday because it's just a bunch of fun playing with these boys.
Thank you for taking the time to read my golf story and good luck in the upcoming season!
