My name is Jenna Hallett and I am a 17 year- old- junior at Presque Isle High School in Presque Isle, Maine. During the 2011-2012 school year, I lettered for Varsity Golf as a freshman and was the only girl on a boys’ varsity golf team. I varied between 6th, 7th, and 8th player on a team of twelve boys that season. During high school golf matches, I play from the mens’ tees, but return back to the womens’ tees when I compete at Regional and Individual State Tournaments. I also play in golf tournaments during the summer golf season to improve my competitive play. During the 2012-2013 high school golf season, I played in the top five on a team of twelve male competitors and I made All-County, All-Conference, and All-State Teams. I also qualified and competed at the New England Championship June, 2013.
I won the 2013 MSGA Maine Junior Amateur Championship on August 6 and 7th with a two day score of 166. I won the High School Individual State Championship with a score of 76 on October 19th, 2013. I made the 2013 All-County, All-Conference, and All-State Teams. I was also chosen by the Portland Press Herald and Maine Sunday Telegram as 2013 High School Girls' Golf MVP and Girls' Golf Player of the Year. During the 2013 golf season, I was 2nd player on a team of 11 male teammates.
My dream is to play collegiate golf, because I love the game, it is my passion, and it is something I want to do for the rest of my life. I work at the Presque Isle Country Club, which benefits my game greatly. As part of my work advantages, I receive private lessons from our golf professional and I am allowed to play for free. I have free access to the practice hole and driving range whenever I please. I am very dedicated to improving my game. I am the first one out to practice and the last one to leave. I practice whenever I am not working and have free time. I live in Northern Maine, which doesn't allow me to play year round. During the snowy season I chip, putt, and swing my clubs on a rug in my basement and I work out to get stronger for the season to come. I also get private swing lessons from my swing coach, Barry Madore, at a local gymnasium. I am willing to look into any school that offers a good program for what I will be majoring in and allows me an opportunity to play on the college golf team during my time there. I am not 100% sure what I want to major in, but I am very interested in Psychology, Law or Journalism. I am also very conscientious about my academics. I work my hardest to always receive high honor roll. I received the Presidential Academic Award for getting high honors from 4th grade through 8th grade. I also received that award my freshman and sophomore year of high school. I continue to work my hardest to receive high honors throughout high school. I take college prep classes, honors classes, and AP classes. I am in advanced math placement. I am currently ranked 3rd, academically, in a class of 147 students and I am on the National Honor Society. I can guarantee that I will work my hardest to receive the highest academic standards throughout high school and college. I can also guarantee that I will work hard to improve my golf game and become the best golfer, I can be.
