Personal Statement

My collegiate goal is to attend a school with a rigorous academic structure.  I want to be continually challenged and surrounded by other intelligent and focused individuals who share my desire to receive an amazing education.  My love for school is matched only by my love for golf.  The only thing better than attending a top academic university would be representing it as a member of their women’s golf team.  I would be a good candidate for your team because I am hard working and committed to succeeding in everything I do.  My countless academic awards and involvement in numerous service projects and extracurricular activities prove this.  I am a great leader as an officer of two clubs and co-captain of Marian’s varsity golf team for the 2016 season.  As part of your golf team, I will use the skills I have learned in these positions to inspire others to be the best golfers and people they can be.

  • MHSAA 2016 State Girls Golf Finals
  • 10/14/16 to 10/15/16
  • A 13th overall finish (out of 108 golfers) - 3 strokes from a top 10 finish. I led my team with a 2-day total of 169 (87-45,42 / 82-45,37). My best 9 was the back on Saturday where I shot a one-over par 37 with 2 birdies, 4 pars and 3 bogies. I only hit 3 fairways but managed to hit 7 greens and have 15 putts. Overall I had 2 birdies, 14 pars, 15 bogies and 5 doubles. Left a few strokes on the course 3 of by bogies were for 3 putts.
  • Camp/Event
  • Division 2, Regional Tournament
  • 10/06/16 to 10/06/16
  • I shot 82 for a 2nd overall finish (out of 62 golfers) leading my team to the Regional win! One birdie, 6 pars and 11 bogies. I hit many more greens than I did at Catholic League, but I had too many 3 putts (5) to score any better. I a looking forward to the State Finals next week.
  • Camp/Event
  • Catholic High School League Championship
  • 10/03/16 to 10/03/16
  • Carded an 88 good for a 13th finish overall (out of 55 golfers). I missed to many greens to score well. This was my area of focus going into state Regionals on Thursday

  • Camp/Event
  • American Control Girls HS Golf Tournament
  • 8/22/16 to 8/22/16
  • I shot a 78 (41 /37) and a No. 3 overall finish!!! My first score ever below 80!!! My score included 4 birdies, 6 pars, 6 bogeys and 2 double bogeys. I finally feel like I am scoring more in line with how I swing the club. I had a great August. Seven tournaments. Only one score over 90 and a scoring average of 85. I am very much looking forward to golf season which gets underway with league play next week!
  • Camp/Event
  • Lakeview Spartan Invitational (Girls HS Tournament)
  • 8/19/16 to 8/19/16
  • I shot an 82 (40 /42) - A 4th place finish. I had a chance to break 80 today, but a triple bogey on No. 18 kept that score off my card. Overall my best round to date - one birdie, 8 pars and 8 bogies to go along with the triple in No. 18.
  • Camp/Event
  • Orange Theory Girls HS Golf Tournament
  • 8/17/16 to 8/17/16
  • My first tournament of the high school season. I shot 85 (46 /39). Another 9 under 40! I struck the ball really well today carding an eagle, 2 birdies, 5 pars, 6 bogeys and one double. It could have been lower if not for two triples and a quadruple bogey! I played the same course in June and shot a 106. I really feel the work I have put in over the winter and summer is starting to show up in my scores. Four consecutive rounds under 90. I am looking forward to my season and being a leader to my teammates! I finished 12th out of 64 golfers.

  • 8/04/16 to 8/04/16
  • An 84 (41 / 43) on the par 71 course. My lowest 18 hole tournament score to date. Helped by a birdie, 8 pars and 6 bodies and 32 putts. Two triple bogeys kept me from being lower, but I continue to work on managing each hole to avoid carding large scores.
  • Camp/Event
  • Top 50 Junior Tour
  • 8/02/16 to 8/03/16
  • Clearly my best 2 day tournament to date! I shot an 88 (38 / 50) the first day with a 5 over par 10 on No. 15. It was the first time I broke 40 on 9 holes (a birdie, 6 pars, a bogey and one double). On the second day I was able to put together a bit more balanced 88 (41 / 47) with 6 pars, 9 bogeys, 2 doubles and a triple. Really happy with the recent progression in my game.

  • 8/01/16 to 8/01/16
  • I shot a 95 (46 /49) with three (3) pars and 37 putts. Although I had two triple bogeys and four (4) doubles I am starting to feel like I am hitting the ball more consistently. I still have considerable work to do to keep the high scores off the card which I know I can do.
  • Camp/Event
  • Top 50 Junior Tour
  • 7/28/16 to 7/29/16
  • I shot 93 the first day of the tournament. I felt fairly good after taking a few weeks off for a summer academic program on the east coast. Four pars, a birdie, six bogeys with 36 putts. I put up a 103 the second day. I had six par, but I carded a 10 over 15 on the par 5, 16th. Hit my drive OB off the tee and it went down hill from there. Without that disaster, I would have been in the mid-90s again. Will continue to work on avoiding the mental lapse that led to the 15.
  • Camp/Event
  • Top 50 Junior Tour
  • 7/06/16 to 7/06/16
  • Although I shot 90 today (47/43), I had 7 pars. My front nine started out well at +2 after 5 holes. I carded a disastrous 9 on the par 4 6th. Two in the water combined with an attempt to hit out of the hazard sealed the +11 on the front. The 21 putts did not help. I certainly will learn from this and manage myself better going forward. The back was where I believe my game is right now - +7; 3 pars with 16 putts. Overall I can see the work on the practice tee / green beginning to show in my game.
  • Camp/Event
  • Top 50 Junior Tour - 2nd Annual Metro Parks Championship
  • 6/28/16 to 6/30/16
  • A first day 106 was one of my worst rounds in quite a while. One par, 39 putts and too many double bogies to count. A 57 on the front was not helped by a combined 9 over on no. 7 & 9. Avoided those scores on the back but still only shot 49. Spent the afternoon working on striking the ball. The second day I saw the improvement I wanted from the work on the range shooting a 91 (44 / 47) with 4 pars and 35 putts. Still not where I wanted to be with my swing through the ball. Third day was clearly my best and how I feel I can play consistently with additional dedication to my swing. I shot an 85 (41 / 44) with 8 pars and 32 putts

  • 6/26/16 to 6/26/16
  • Camp/Event
  • Michigan State University Golf Camp
  • 6/19/16 to 6/24/16
  • At camp, I putt, chipped, and hit on the range in the mornings. In the afternoons I went out onto nearby courses, including Forest Akers East and West courses and the course at College Fields Golf Club. A coach analyzed my swing using Trackman, and I now know how to improve my swing even more.

  • I shot a 119.
  • Camp/Event
  • Golf Week Amateur Tour
  • 6/11/16 to 6/12/16
  • I shot 97 on Day 1, and 103 on Day 2. On the first day, I started off strong with a birdie on a par five. On the next 5 holes I carded three doubles, a bogey, and a par. I ended with two bogeys and a par on number 9 to finish +8 at 44, a great score considering my three double bogeys. The back did not go quite as well as the front. I started out with a double and three consecutive bogeys. My next four holes were disastrous, beginning with an 8 on a par 5 and followed by a double and two triples. I closed out the first day with a bogey and 53 on the back for a 97 overall- very disappointing given my front nine. On the second day, two of my first three holes were triples. The final six holes consisted of 4 bogeys, 1 par, and 1 double to close the front with a 49. Just as with Day 1, the back 9 did not go as well as the front. My first 5 holes were triples, followed by 4 bogeys to finish out the back with a 54 for an 18 hole score of 103. From these two rounds, I have realized just how mental of a sport golf is. In future tournaments, I cannot let myself get into a rut after a bad hole and must instead move forward, playing my best to make up for it. I need to play every 9 like my front 9 of Day 1, where I didn't let my double bogeys discourage me.
  • Camp/Event
  • Top 50 Junior Tour - Fox Hills Memorial Day Classic
  • 5/30/16 to 5/31/16
  • I shot 99 and 91. I really struggled the first day, but went home hit balls and worked on what was not working during the tournament. I came back on day two and shot 40 on the front and a disappointing 51 on the back. Missed too many greens on the back to score well and carded a 9 on the No. 6 par 5. I will be working on my approach shots ahead of my next tournament.
  • Camp/Event
  • Golfweek Amateur Tour
  • 5/21/16 to 5/21/16
  • I shot a 97. I struggled on the first three holes of the front 9 with three triple bogeys on par fours. I hit my stride, bogeying two in a row, paring a par three, and then birdieing a par 4. I finished out the final 2 holes on the front with bogeys for a total of 48- a strong finish considering the rough start. The back nine started out much like the front with a triple on a par 5. I came back from this with a par on a par 4 and then three consecutive bogeys. I fell apart on the final 4 holes with a triple, two bogeys, and a double for a total of 49. From this tournament, I realized my need to work on approach shots in order to hit more greens and give myself a better chance at scoring well.
  • Camp/Event
  • MHSAA D2 Girls State Championship
  • 10/16/15 to 10/17/15
  • I shot 99, 91. I struggled with putting the first day and acknowledged it as my weakness I needed to improve upon the next day. After I finished my first round, I worked on my putting with my coach in the 30 degree weather.
  • Camp/Event
  • MHSAA D2 Girls Regionals
  • 10/08/15 to 10/08/15
  • I shot 86 tied for 7th overall. This score helped my team reach states.
