Personal Statement
My name is Samantha DeBusk and I am a sophomore at North Davidson High School in Lexington, North Carolina. I started playing golf at the end of 8th grade. I made all conference both years in the Central Piedmont Conference. My freshman year I was 11th with an average of 50. I improved to 4th in the conference my sophomore year with an average of 41. I plan to continue working hard and improving to reach my full potential. I played many tournaments in the summer of 2014 on the Peggy Kirk Bell Girl's Golf Tour and the Tarheel Youth Golf Association. I plan to continue playing in these tournaments and hope to have my 18 hole average in the 80's by the end of the summer.
I have also played soccer, basketball, softball, and took dance. I play my hardest and have been very successful in every sport, including a state championship in Babe Ruth softball. I love having teammates and making new friends. I push myself and am a leader on a team and in the classroom.
I take honors courses at North Davidson High School. At school I am in our math honors society, Mu Alpha Theta, and I am Vice President Historian in FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America).
I enjoy volunteering at my church. I help the children, and organizations such as Rubric Bell Park (a homeless shelter) and the Pastors Pantry (senior citizens can get free groceries here). In the past two years I have completed over 100 volunteer hours.
I would love to play golf in college as I pursue a degree that would allow me to go into sports announcing. During football season I worked with the radio program “Our ND Sports” so I could learn about and become more familiar with broadcasting.
