Personal Statement
My name is Caitlyn Tasney and I am a confident 19 year old young woman who has been brought up by strong faith based parents. I am the second oldest child of six siblings. My brothers and sisters are not just my family, but they are my friends and the ones I spend most of my time with. My mom and dad are my role models and raise us in a way that I am very proud.
Since I already spent my first year playing college golf at Division I Northern Kentucky University, I'm looking forward to a 2nd opportunity finding the right college or university choice that comes closer to meeting my personal, athletic, and educational goals. NKU is a terrific school, but the facilities for the golf team were too far away from the campus, which took time away from both my practice schedule and studying. This made it very tough on me educationally the first semester when I had to change majors out of nursing and move into elementary education. This also led to my golf game suffering and playing well below my personal standards and future goals. It also was quite expensive to fuel up my car due to the mileage I was having to put on it weekly. The one positive is that I'm very excited to be heading into elementary education and getting to work with children. Although I will miss my coaches, teammates, and friends in my dorm, I have a much better understanding of the type of school that will help me mature into the type of student athlete that I want to become. There is also the excitement of creating lifetime friendships with my future college coach, teammates, and classmates.
I started playing golf at the age of 9. My dad was a competitive junior player and became a club professional many years ago. Although no longer employed in the golf, he wanted to share his love of the game with us. My parents originally got all of us involved in martial arts, because they knew it would help us both physically and mentally. I have taken martial arts since I was 4 years old and have attained black belts in both Tang Soo Do and Taekwondo. I won numerous local and state championships in martial arts, but knew I wanted something different. After achieving my 2nd black belt, my older brother and I told our dad we would like to go hit golf balls. He said that was fine, but he would only agree if we learned how to do it properly. We had a lot of fun going to local golf camps and such, while my father was teaching us. By the time I turned 11, I wanted to try to play in some tournaments. Once I started competing, I realized that this was the game for me. I loved playing a sport where the results are fully dependent on my own abilities. it was very much like martial arts in that respect.
Although my dad is always there to help me with my game, he has turned me over to Kyle Morris (Top 50 Golf Instructor) who is on the Golf Channel occasionally. I'm looking forward to taking my game to an elite level over the next 12 months while out of school and being recruited. I will be on a strong fitness and golf program along with having a part time job. Please review my NCSA profile (updated video coming soon) and I look forward to hearing from interested coaches right away.
