My name is Rachel Scherer and I am a junior at Mars Area School district in Mars, PA. I started playing golf since I was about 8 years old. I started learning with the "Four Star Junior Golf Academy", which is where I met my current private coach John Borough. I didn't get really serious with this sport until middle school because I wanted to try out for varsity my freshman year, which I had succeeded in. Throughout playing on the varsity team, I learned that a main part of golf is actually the mental aspect of the game. Since I learned this it has really helped with me game and has separated me from other golfers. I never let a bad round get me down and I always try my best to keep a positive look on everything. I also always try my hardest no matter what because I love to win. With my passion for golf, attitude, patience, and desire to win makes me a fierce competitor. Even though I love to win I also love being apart of a team. I believe team work is crucial to win in any sport. If you don't treat your team like a family it is a lot harder to want to do well and strive to win for your team. I have learned a lot about team work, helping others, and also learning how to practice hard from being involved with many other sports. I have played basketball for 8 years, softball for 10 years, competitive figure skating for 8, and recently this past year track and field for 1 year. Basketball and softball has really shown me teamwork since you can't win unless you work together and help each other. Figure skating and track has helped me also learn to do a sport individually but also be apart of a team. I have lettered in basketball, track and field, and golf. I am also the number one figure skater on my skating team. I got to achieve all of this from my hard work and dedication to everything I do. I have learned that the only way to get better is to practice hard and the right way without giving up. Also, since I have played a variety of sports it has helped me become a very strong athlete. It has came to my advantage by learning to use many different muscles, to control every muscle in my body, and to become flexible. When my coaches tell me to fix something I can adjust in a couple swings, because of my strong muscle control. I am a very hard worker who will always give 110%, so I am always willing to try new techniques a new way of doing things to improve. Academically, I have always had good grades and managed to achieve high honor roll. This was a lot harder to achieve because I always push myself for a harder challenge so I took as many advanced classes as I was able to and each year I would double in sciences. Also, my upcoming years I'm going to challenge myself with AP classes and well as taking CHS classes which are college credits. Throughout the rest of my high school my goal is to continue to improve my grades and achieve high honor roll, as well as throughout college. I am still not sure what I want to major in college since I only 16 and I believe it is still too early to decide. Not only am I athletic and smart I have other talents and hobbies. Such as, playing the flute, violin, and photography. I have played both the flute and violin for school since 5th grade. I began going to competitions for my flute and excelled as I always have when I put my mind to something. With photography is just something I have always done in my spare time as a hobby. Photography and my music has helped me throughout my high school years to meet new friends and to stay active and involved with the school. I am certain with my talent, work ethic, personally, and persistence I would be an amazing addition to any team!
