Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Julia Dapron, and I am currently 17 years old and I have been playing golf since I was four years old. For a long time, golf was a way for me to spend time with my parents, and I learned to love the sport for that. When I was 14 something clicked and I decided I wanted to go further with my golfing career; I want to play college golf. Ever since then, that has been my goal. Considering I live in Vermont, there isn't a lot of girls playing golf and the competition is limited, so I have been playing against the boys in many of my high school tournaments. I have also spent the summer playing in NEJRPGA events and Hurricane Junior Tour events. This has taught me to get along with everyone and helped me show people that I can keep up with anyone even some boys. I have played a lot of sports including soccer, tennis, alpine skiing, hockey, surfing, and lacrosse, but I always fall back to golf. Golf is one of those sports that challenges me, and I love a good challenge. It never ceases to amaze me all the variables in golf. You get one thing figured out and there are 20 more things for you to improve on. It is a never-ending battle, and I love that because it makes me put everything I have into the game. It challenges me because I have to balance school, friends, family, and sports. I always try my best, and I always try to stay positive, through a hard hole and a bad round. Golf has given me the opportunity to meet amazing people, go to fantastic places, and with that I have become a better person. I hope I get the opportunity to continue this amazing golfing experience in college playing for you.

  • Vermont Highschool State Championship
  • 10/09/18 to 10/09/18
  • I am now the Vermont State Division 1 Medalist THREE years in a row. I had the low score of the day with a 9 over par 80. Beating second place by 10 shots. What I am most proud of is how close the team came to winning the championship. The team lost by 3 shots which is huge considering that in my sophomore year the team was 30+ shots behind first place. I am proud of my teammates and how far they have come.
  • Camp/Event
  • Hurricaine Junior Tour New York Summer Junior Open #2
  • 8/18/18 to 8/19/18
  • Finished 4th with a round of 88 on the first day and a 79 on the second day. Unfortunately, because of a scheduling issue at the course I was unable to play a complete practice round prior to the tournament. Had a few issues with the ball going right on the first day. Happy that I figured it out and played well on the second day.
  • Camp/Event
  • Vermont Women’s Amateur Championship
  • 8/06/18 to 8/08/18
  • I am a two-time Vermont Junior Amateur Champion for 2018. Finished 10th overall out 62 players. Country Club of Vermont is a very challenging course with huge greens with multiple tiers and extremely fast. Day one I shot an 82 which was a good day. Still getting used to the layout and the greens. Day two shot an 84 with one bad hole on the back nine. Again played well other than the quadruple bogey on the back. Day three shot an 83 which was a great score considering I started the day with a quadruple bogey on the second hole. I am most proud of how I handled myself through the rest of the round. I shot a 44 on the front with the quad and then shot a 3 over 39 on the back to shoot an 83. I am looking forward to try and win a third junior championship next year.

  • Hurricane Junior Tour Hartford Junior Open #1
  • 5/19/18 to 5/20/18
  • Finished 8th shooting 90 on the first day. Had some trouble on the second hole making a quadruple bogey. I am proud that I kept my head in the game and was able to move past the bad hole. Weather was also a factor during the first round with heavy rain for almost the entire round. Shot a 85 on the second day.
  • Camp/Event
  • Hurricane Junior Tour Major Championship at Bulle Rock
  • 4/07/18 to 4/08/18
  • First time playing golf, for the season after a long cold winter in Vermont. Unfortunately, the weather was not good for this event. During the drive down to Maryland the forecast was calling for snow on Saturday. Temperatures were in the high 30's and low 40's both days with heavy winds. The only good part was it did't snow! Finished 4th had a tough 1st round shooting a 98 Second round I improved a lot with 86. It was a good first tournament of the season with lots of adversity.
  • Camp/Event
  • Highschool State Championships
  • 10/10/17 to 10/10/17
  • I am now the Vermont State Division 1 Medalist two years in a row. I had the low score of the day with a 10 over par 82. Beating second place by 2 shots, it was very exciting to have beat mostly seniors. Also my team got second again, but we are improving. The gap between first and second last year was 37, and this year it was only 9.

  • Camp/Event
  • Vermont Women’s Amateur Championship
  • 8/07/17 to 8/09/17
  • I am the Vermont Junior Amateur Champion of 2017. I made a birdie on the 3rd playoff hole to win the title from the 2015 and 2016 Junior Champion. Had a great tournament and played well for the most part. The green speed was hard to get used to but figured it out in the second round with help from my caddy. First round shot an 86 with again fast greens and I was having speed control issues. Was tied for 12th after the first round. Second round shot an 80 which is the low round for the juniors. Putted much better and had a great round going was two over through 10. Had a triple bogie on the 11th hole which is a really tricky par 4 with an elevated green and a false front. Was tied for 7th after the second day. Third round shot an 84 again with some putting issues but had a good day overall. Finished sixth overall for the VT Amateur. One thing that I am very proud of is how well I hit the ball off the tee and my ball striking during the rounds. I played 54 holes and 3 holes of sudden death golf and never lost a golf ball. Other than some questionable putts I played great.
  • Camp/Event
  • Vermont Golf Association Junior Stroke Play Championship
  • 8/04/17 to 8/04/17
  • Finished 12th out of 14 boys. 5800 yard course. I was the only girl in the boys 16 - 18 Division. A Very tough day with extremely fast greens that are shaped like an upside down plate. It was also very windy which made second shots into the greens difficult. A lot of shots into the greens were good but would not hold on the greens. All in all it was a good experiance!
  • Camp/Event
  • ELITE TOUR- Blue Hill CC & Wentworth Hills GC
  • 8/01/17 to 8/02/17
  • Camp/Event
  • Hurricane Junior Tour New England Major Championship
  • 7/29/17 to 7/30/17
  • Finished 4th. 5600-yard course. Had a good tournament shot a 79 in the practice round. Shot an 81 and was tied for the lead after the first round. Second round shot a 91. I was playing well and was even par through the 5th hole and then had three bad holes in a row dropping 8 shots. Even though I did not play great on the second day I never gave up and kept trying.

  • g
  • 7/20/17 to 7/22/17
  • Camp/Event
  • NEPGA New England Junior Open
  • 7/19/17 to 7/20/17
  • I shot a 6 over 79 on the first day I was even par on the on the back. On the second day, I shot a 12 over 85. On the second and third hole, I had some issues and was 5 over. I played well for the rest of the round. Finished tied for 8th.
  • Camp/Event
  • Hurricane Junior Tour Major Championship
  • 7/15/17 to 7/16/17
  • The course I played was 6300 yards which is longer than I usually play. It was a tough tournament because I was losing shots to the right. Becuase my swing was out of sync I did not use my driver. I used my three wood off most of the tees, but the course was so long I would end up with 200+ yards in for second shots. I shot a 91 on the first day with a 9 on the par 4 7th hole. Lost two balls. I shot a 92 on the second day with some issues on the 16th and 17th holes. Honestly, I am proud of myself for keeping myself calm even though there were times I could have just given up. I kept fighting, and that is what matters to me.
  • Camp/Event
  • NEPGA Jr Tour- Chelmsford CC & Maynard GC
  • 6/26/17 to 6/27/17
  • Finished 2nd place. First day was 11 over for a 79, was in 3rd and was semi happy with my round. Second day I shot a 8 over 78, was very happy with my score, was the only person to shoot in the 70s both days. I ended up only 2 shots off the lead over all it was a good tournment.
  • Camp/Event
  • 2017 New England Interscholastic Intivational Championship
  • 6/21/17 to 6/21/17
  • Shot a 87 was easily one of the hardest rounds of golf for me. I was even par after five holes, then had two really bad holes. I pulled myself together through the next 5 holes and then on the last six holes I was 9 over. It was a hard day but I know golf is hard. I learned that things arent always going to go your way and that I need to get out of my head becuse it just hurts you.
  • Camp/Event
  • Qualfier PGA Jr. Champ
  • 6/11/17 to 6/11/17
  • Finished 6th. Shot an 11 over 83. I was only 2 over through 11 holes and playing well but had some issues on the 12th and 17th holes and dropped 6 shots.
  • Camp/Event
  • Vermont Highschool State Championship
  • 6/06/17 to 6/06/17
  • I am the Vermont State Division 1 Medalist. I had the low score of the day with a 5 over par 77. Beating second place by 3 shots, it was very exciting for me considering I was third last year. Also my team got second which was very exciting because we weren't expecting to place.
